They say that birds of the same feathers, flock together. I guess this is true. I am drawn to people who are born under the same birth sign as I am - Capricorn. It was my chat with Robs yesterday that got me to blog about this topic. Robs and I were chatting about one of our friend's preparation for this Friday's job interview. Robs and this friend of ours are also Capricorns. Some people just show up for interviews and talk about their career experiences and that's it but for this common friend, she reviewed, had mock interviews and searched for people she knows who work there. Talk about being prepared. The long and short of it is that Capricorns plan, prepare, worry, plan again and aim for perfection in everything they do. In every aspect, I am a Capricorn. Capricorns are known to be:1. Organized - It could be bordering on being obsessive compulsive about certain things. Take for example how I store my personal things. I took photos and I'm letting you have a peek on my type A personality. This is my cabinet. Polos are hung on top and they are color coded if you notice. Long dresses are placed at the far right. Below are my trousers. They're also arranged by color. Work pants are by the left and my casuals are on the right. They can never be mixed. It'll stress me out. Separately, my non collared tops and casuals are placed inside the drawers. They are color coded as well. All blacks go together and all pinks are stacked together. It's easier for me to look for my clothes this way.For my accessories such as belts and hair clips, I put these in a separate drawer. The belts are wound and the accessories placed inside plastic containers. These are my bag organizers. These are what I put inside my bag so my things are organized (this is the key word for Capricorns). I have a big leather bag and I want to easily find my things whenever I need it. I recently bought the black one at Egg in SM Manila. It's only priced at Php 200. It has a lot of small pockets on the side where I can place my lotion, hand sanitizer, blush on, candies, book, umbrella, oil control film and notebook. I think I'm closed to bringing my whole cabinet in here. For the beige bag organizer, I got it as a gift from Jen, my very good friend in Taipei. It has pen holders and little pockets too where I can put my comb, ID, rosary and prayer book. It even has a small flashlight so just in case I'm inside a dark place like a movie house or inside the car, I can still see the contents of my bag. The beige one can be bought from Home TV Shopping or at their kiosk in Robinsons Galleria. It's pricier than the black one. I have both organizers in my bag as it's huge.
Here is another drawer where I put my watches and brooches. I have a wooden organizer for my watches. It has a glass cover so I can easily peek through what's inside. I love how it fits my drawer. I have a separate space for documents, books and CDs. On the top shelf are my bills, bank statements and other important documents. These are placed in plastic covers so they do not easily get crumpled. I fasten them and pile my bills with the most recent statement on top. The lower shelf is where I put my books by height and this is also where I stack my CDs. The books are covered in plastic courtesy of Pa. I forgot to mention that I was born with uber organized parents too. It runs in the family. Out of 6 members, 4 of us are Capricorns!
These are my bills compiled by company. I have a complete record of my phone, credit card and bank statements. Once I pay the bills, I attach the receipt on the statement.
The orange plastic containers that you see on the right are my shoe containers. The left column is for the blacks and the right for the browns and other colors. Usually, I put my high heeled shoes here so they do not easily look worn out. That's how I take good care of my shoes. Flip flops, rubber shoes and sandals are placed in another shelf.
Usually I file my work related documents this way. My 201 files go together and I place these in a green folder.
In order for me to easily find a document in a folder, I place colored Post Its! I like my documents colorful so I label them this way.
2. Neat and Tidy - This reminds me of how I wipe my work desk clean every single day with a spritz of alcohol. I have to make sure that my work space is dust free and my things are not scattered. I also water my fortune plant everyday so the leaves don't dry out. The leaves also have to be wiped free from dust.
If I happen to stay overnight at another place outside of my home, I expect the place to be squeaky clean most especially the bathroom. I'm able to tell how clean a person is just by looking at how they organize their home and how clean the bathrooms are. It says a lot. Whenever I'm abroad and I stay at the staff house, I will not be able to comfortably settle myself not until I'm assured that the place has been vacuumed and sanitized. If not, I clean it myself even if I'm jet lagged and tired. I need to be psyched that I'm staying in a germ free place.
3. A Girl Scout - I always come prepared. Well I think I am in most cases. My bag says it all. You say it's raining? I have an umbrella! You need to wipe your hands clean? I have an alcogel. You need a pen? Well I have 2 in my bag. Did you say you need a paper? I have my notebook with me. Everything that I need is all there. This also explains that I hardly travel light. Robs just recently taught me how to travel light. I'm always near going overweight with my luggages but I've learned to just bring the essentials (well I hope so).
4. A Planner - Always with a checklist and drawing up list of things to do regardless if I'm about to go to sleep or taking a shower. Whenever I go on trips, I always draft a list of things that I need to bring. If you check my phone, under Tasks, you'll see that I've drawn up a list of things to do and when I need to have it accomplished. I can be lenient at times on my deadlines. All my appointments are also entered in my organizer. Nothing escapes it whether these are dinners, meetings or interviews. It just has to be keyed in.
5. A Perfectionist - I'm able to manage my being a Capricorn. I admit that I'm a perfectionist and at times an idealist but as I grow older, I tend to be kinder to myself because I need to. I deliberately leave certain areas not as organized as I'd want it to be. Take for example my files, I still have two folders that I have to sort through. I just didn't feel like organizing it so I'm saving it up for a later date. I can live with that manageable mess but it's always in my head that I need to sort those out. Needless to say, I can be stressed out too when there are SUDDEN change of plans. Whatever was set in stone is already final. It can be stressful on my end if major details of an important event were changed without me knowing it.
As I take a closer look on the kind of person that I am, I also realize that I have to be more spontaneous. When things get really rough, Ma tells me to go with the flow and not go against the tide. I can really be bull headed on certain things but in order to enjoy a stress free life, I need to choose my battles. I am not perfect. No one is. Life isn't too. A doctor once said that in order to avoid straining the heart, that we do not look for perfection. I say he's right. That's exactly what I'm doing. Perfecting living in an imperfect world.
